Ever since I was 13 years old, I’ve been going to the “Sneekweek.” Sneek is a little city in the north of The Netherlands where once a year the biggest sailing event of the European inland waterways is held. However, to most teenagers and young-adults it is known as one week of non-stop partying.
I have had a long weekend of doing totally nothing and I enjoyed it immensely! I have just started a new job (about a month ago) and I have been getting back into the working routine. The one thing that I really have to get used to is the long days. I have had jobs before, but those were always just 2 days a week. Now I am working at more of grown-up job that is partly in an office. Including commute my days are significantly longer than they were before. The upside of a regular job is the weekend off and I have really made the most of it. I managed to watch some other movies that I do not want to withhold from you!
After five years of my student life in Groningen city, I am now officially moving on to a more mature lifestyle. That is, I resume my studies with a master’s in Amsterdam and confine the amount of going out to once (deliberately left blank here). Groningen, I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me: new friendships, new experiences, and a new outlook of life. I deemed it appropriate that I close this chapter of my life with a blog post on some of my favorite memories in the student-driven-town.
Skincare is one the most important things that I tend to forget. I am usually very late in the morning or very eager to go to bed at night. Unfortunately I often forget to take care of my skin while actively keeping it clean and healthy does wonders. Since a couple of weeks I have been trying a new skincare line and for some reason I have been much more consistent about removing my make-up and cleaning my face. I can really notice a difference! The skincare line I have been trying is HEMA’s It’s My Beautiful Skin Day – line. HEMA is local Dutch store, but also has some stores in France, Belgium, England, Germany, Spain & Luxemburg. HEMA is really part of our local culture and you’ll find the store in almost any city and town. The last years HEMA has been trying to branch out. Their stores have been carrying skincare for a long time but the packaging never really appealed to me. Until I found the It’s My Beautiful Skin Day – line. I went home with a full range to try!
My mother is an interior design graduate and it’s therefore no wonder that my parents’ home decor changes a few hundred times per year. My mom goes through phases, with the most recent being: all-white items or colorfully warm red toned pieces. This blog post will entail the first kind and next week the second category will be shown.
As my mom also has her own mosaic and glass fusion company called Cowdí (website will soon be up), lots of the centerpieces are DIYed. I hope this blog post inspires you to change (or make) your own décor. If you do, please let me know in the comments below! Read More »
One of my hobbies is taking photographs. I love the deception of it. In a photo you only show one viewpoint, one angle. And you, the girl behind the camera, get to choose what you show.
You might see a sunset beach, an abandoned house or a sunny tower, which on it’s own is beautiful. However, you do not get the whole picture. You do no know what is going on at the left or right side of that image. You just get a piece of reality.
When on holiday I love exploring the new environment I’m in. During my vacation in Corfu I shot the images below and wanted to share it with you guys. I hope you like them as much as I do.
Amsterdam and food. On the one hand you’ll find places to eat every 50 metres, on the other hand the really good places are often hidden a litte. When it comes to Amsterdam and good food I am a total novice. In areas around the station and the Kalverstraat there are lot of pizzaplaces, fastfoodjoints and bakeries but it is much harder to find the one of kind places. Things get much easier when you walk away from that area to for example the famous 9 Straatjes. I have been in the 9 Straatjes a couple of times with my Aunt. She has been living in Amsterdam for as long as I can remember and she really knows the ins and outs. She definitely has a knack for the road less travelled!
Well hello, colorful soap bars sitting there on my sister’s beauty display. Let me have a closer look, let me have swift sniff. Oh yeah, that’s the stuff. Recently my sister purchased these four BATHTIME STORIES soap bars at a Dutch store called Etos.
Chances are that you have at least heard of the Battle of Waterloo. Personally, I knew that the battle was fought at Waterloo and that Napoleon was involved. I remained somewhat murky on the specifics though.. But, we are never too old to learn to today it is time to explore and find out a little more about one of the most decisive battles of the continent: the Battle of Waterloo.
So we are doing this blogthing for a few months now and we thought it was about time we’d get a bit more personal. What better way than to do that with a TAG. We found this one on the website of the Dutch blogger Vera of veracamilla.nl and contains a bunch of random personal questions. If you like this post, feel free to copy it and tag us so we can check your answers out. We’d love to learn more about you as well :).
